Tszyu vs Zerafa

Tim Tszyu v Michael Zerafa is the blockbuster mega-fight for super Welter Title boxing fight that is planned to take place on Wednesday, 7 July 2021 at Newcastle Entertainment Centre, Australia.

MIchael Zerafa has revealed more details about the mystery illness that threatened to cancel his blockbuster bout with Tim Tszyu in July.

Promoters No Limit Boxing were left in the dark about Zerafa's condition for more than 24 hours, unsure whether Zerafa was injured or sick.

Zerafa was scheduled to met Tszyu face-to-face for a series of promotional shoots and interviews on Wednesday, but those commitments have been postponed two weeks.

The 29-year-old disclosed more details of his fight-threatening medical scare this weekend.

"I came in for a normal training session and felt a little bit of a pain - a bit of a niggle and was just unsettled," Zerafa said.

"I felt a little bit green, but finished the session.

"Later that night, I ended up just throwing up. I needed to go to the bathroom every two minutes and had pain.

"I just went to the hospital. I'm still waiting for results but they've said I've got an infection of either the kidney or bowel, or inflammation of the stomach.

"I was in a ball that night, I couldn't be flying to Sydney to do press conferences and stuff when I'm in a condition like that.

"The health comes first. I'm not shying away from any fight. If this happened to Tim, I would wish him nothing but a speedy recovery.

"It is what it is."

With uncertainty swirling around Zerafa's health last week, social media was a hotbed of speculaion and rumour.

Zerafa says he was disappointed to read some off the commentary around his illness.

"I think Paul Gallen said it best at his press conference the other day - as adults, they just hide behind a keyboard," he said.

"I'm just having a crack.

"It's sad to see people not knowing what was actually wrong with me, but being so negative.

"I could've died for all anyone knows and they were saying this and that, but you can't please everybody."

Zerafa most recently beat Anthony Mundine inside one round in March, after a 15-month hiatus due to COVID-19.

Prior to that, he was beaten via a controversial majority decision opposite Jeff Horn in December 2019.  Tszyu Zerafa fight time

Tszyu has remained active, fighting three times in seven months, including stoppage wins over Horn, Bowyn Morgan and Dennis Hogan.

Zerafa says he poses more of a threat than any of Tszyu's prior opponents.

"He hasn't fought anyone like me and I've got a lot of things up my sleeve that I'm going to bring out on the night," he said.

"I believe if we implement what we've been doing in training, there's a huge possibility I can stop him - I've got a lot of power.

"He's a tough opponent, he's doing great. It's going to be a good fight and the winner out of all this is Australian boxing."

Zerafa was admitted to hospital early last week, with serious concerns around whether he would be fit enough to step into the ring on July 7 in Newcastle.
